First though, some history...

- the "Old Days"

InfoMatters began as "Synapps" in 1991 in North Carolina to provide custom software and integration solutions to businesses. The primary focus was on custom database work, accounting systems, and using computer-based technologies to solve business problems. In creating this custom software, we've always worked to make data into information by providing structured data entry and retrieval through customized reports. We have also been focused on productivity software and human interface design. Not only did clients use our software directly, they include it in custom packages that they sometimes resell as shrink-wrapped solutions of their own.

Division Created

As a result of the growing ubiquity of web-based browsers and Internet access among our clients and their customers, we began focusing on the Internet as a wonderful medium for distributed data access. In 1995, we created the " InfoVista " division to focus on Internet/intranet technologies and map the opportunities for expansion and growth.

Much to our delight, we found that Synapps' skills, products, and services fit well under an internet/intranet umbrella. The principles of software design and implementation were consistent with the requirements of an internet/intranet world. In fact, we found that our InfoVista Net division could do everything Synapps could do -- and more. As a result, InfoVista became a superset of Synapps and, in the late fall of 1996, absorbed its parent and became its own North Carolina corporation.

We mean the double-entendre, because we do focus on issues about information -- and it's important.

In April 1997, the French firm InfoVista SA purchased our rights to the "InfoVista" name in the US (they had acquired international rights and wanted to open a US office). We rolled all of our operations and trademarks into a newly named company, " InfoMatters ".

Our ownership has remained constant through our evolution.

Our Location: The Research Triangle, North Carolina

We are located in the beautiful Research Triangle area of North Carolina. The "Triangle" is bounded by Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh, homes of Duke University, the University of North Carolina, and NC State University, respectively. The area boasts the highest per capita of Ph.D.'s in the world (made up of, among others, Blue Devils, Tarheels, and Wolfpack graduates). The area is home to key installations of corporate America, such as the U.S. headquarters of Glaxo-Welcome (the largest pharmaceutical firm in the world) and Nortel and huge R&D, manufacturing, and other installations for IBM, BASF, Cisco, Motorola, Lockheed, GE, Sumitomo, Fujitsu, Scholastic, Ziff-Davis, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, US Postal Service, and GTE. These and many other prominent firms create tremendous opportunities here. In fact, the Triangle is the No. 1 one spot in the nation to do business, according to Fortune magazine, and the No. 1 place in the country to live, according to Money magazine!

There's lots of fun here as well: NCAA basketball reigns supreme; the American Dance Festival brings the best dance companies from all over the world for six weeks each summer; many Broadway plays appear at Duke the night before opening in New York City, and four major lakes are within a half-hour. Pinehurst, one of the world's most famous golf resorts, is 45 minutes south, the ocean is 2.5 hours east, and the Great Smoky Mountains are 3.5 hours west.

Client Focus

Our primary focus is building dynamic, database-driven web sites for corporate giants (like Apple Computer, Inc., large pharmaceuticals, Duke University Medical Center and others), software developers (like Everyware Development Corp.), law firms, schools, churches, non-profit organizations, retail stores, and firms using intranets (we're not allowed to publicize these). Additionally, we are in the process of "productizing" more than 30 modules that make creating highly functional web sites a snap! These will be sold over the net to people wanting prefab starts to high-end web sites and to site developers who need to host multiple sites on a single server.

InfoMatters provides exceptional Website Services, Creation Products, Training, and Custom Database Creation . Additionally, InfoMatters' professionals provide a variety of training, consulting, and direct technical support services to ensure clients' satisfaction. We are also very active in a number of Internet mailing lists, offering a wide range of information and support services.

Social Responsibility

We try our best to create a realistic balance between meeting business needs and acting with a social and environmental conscience. We accept work only from companies in whom we believe. We give back to the community whenever possible in the form of frequent charitable contributions. For instance, last year we performed over 500 hours of pro bono work for such organizations as the Group B Strep Association , the Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship , and the Montessori Community School .
